Yesterday, Silk Sonic released their first single, “Leave The Door Open.” It was produced by Mars and D’Mile and co-written by Mars, Anderson, D’Mile, and Brody Brown. The new song was released just a week after .Paak and Mars announced the formation of Silk Sonic.
With the release of the single also comes the video, which shows Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak and their band jamming during a session.
Both artists have been friends and collaborators for a long time. In 2017, Anderson opened the European leg of Bruno’s latest tour. Mars and .Paak talked with Zane Lowe from Apple Music and revealed that the Silk Sonic project essentially began from a studio session in 2017. “It snowballed. And it was like, well, want to come back tomorrow? And we kept coming up with music. It felt like why you fall in love with music in the first place. And jamming with your buddy… There’s no plan, just working out the parts and trying to excite each other,” Mars said.
Mars and .Paak have yet to reveal many details about their upcoming album “An Evening With Silk Sonic”, but it will feature “special guest host” Bootsy Collins.
“An Evening With Silk Sonic” marks Mars’ first album since Grammy winner “24K Magic” in 2016.
