Benny says about ‘The World’: “This was the first song Kenny and I wrote together in his studio in LA. Kenny had binge-watched Yacht Rock documentaries the evening before in preparation for our writing sessions. He was full of ideas and rhythms and I was doing some chords, and this popped out. Hether joined us for some great guitar parts and came up with the top line for the bridge (all that math). I brought the song home with me, and then we came up with the chorus (living it up). It’s a song that refers to the old yacht rock days of the record, a very nostalgic, 70’s feel, pumped up by Kenny.”
‘The Only One” is a new slice of blissful soul-pop. Benny wrote this song in his native town Amsterdam and finished it in LA and London. Benny says ‘The Only One’ is “about a man who’s losing touch with reality, obsessing (yet again) over a woman. I sing differently than I normally do, but I couldn’t help getting sweet and smooth again in the chorus.” The process of creating ‘The Only One’ flowed as sweetly as its sparkling guitar riff: “Normally there would be a lot of sweat and tears in the creation process, but not this time.”
This isn’t the first time Kenny and Benny have worked together: Kenny produced a track for Benny’s 2021 release “Beat Tape II”, then this year, Kenny released his debut album Louie, which featured Benny on The Perch and included two songs he co-wrote.
