Durand Jones & The Indications are back – and they’re bringing the smooth, nostalgic vibes with them. The trio – Durand Jones, Aaron Frazer, and Blake Rhein – has announced their upcoming album, “Flowers” (out June 27 via Dead Oceans), and dropped its lead single, “Been So Long,” a warm, harmony-soaked meditation on reunion, change, and the joy of coming home.

From the opening moments, “Been So Long” sets the tone for what feels like a personal and musical homecoming. The Indications’ signature blend of throwback soul, modern groove, and airtight harmonies is on full display as they croon: “It’s been so long/since we’ve been gone/it’s good to be back together.” More than just a band reuniting, the song taps into the universal experience of returning to familiar places – whether that’s your hometown or a basement jam session where it all began.

For Flowers, their fourth album and first since 2021’s Private Space, the band embraced a return to their roots. Much of the record was crafted in Rhein’s Chicago home studio, with a focus on raw collaboration and one-take energy. It’s a record that embraces the maturity that comes with years on the road and personal evolution. “We are all in our 30s, have been through ups and downs,” Jones reflects. “Flowers are a sign of maturity, growth, spring, productivity.”

That growth is felt in every note of “Been So Long.” Featuring Chicago musicians Wyatt Waddell and Michael Damani, the track exudes effortless chemistry, an extension of the Indications’ commitment to their craft.

For a band that’s spent over a decade perfecting their soulful alchemy, Flowers isn’t just an album—it’s a testament to where they’ve been, where they’re going, and, most importantly, the joy of finding their way back.
