Marc, where are you at the moment?
At this moment I’m at my country house listening to my son doing a live to air on instagram….and getting a bit teary I must admit.
How does the Corona crisis affect you?
Well, all my gigs have been cancelled so we’re doing some small at home free concerts to give people something in the way of relief during the lock down…..and I’m thinking about what this is going to mean going forward socially and politically.
How do you estimate the effects of the corona epidemic on the music industry?
It may in some ways save the industry on a certain level ….I also think the mega concert thing is maybe going to be the big loser here as fans rethink that experience vs the more intimate concerts.
What do you do with the time you involuntarily gained?
I work in my studio and because both my kids are back home now, because they can’t go home, I am hanging with them.
What projects are you currently working on?
I’m working on a duet project with my wife Amy Sky.
What does music mean to you in times of crisis?
Music is the way I connect with the world and the universe…and that doesn’t change really except I think about different issues.
Which music, which albums are you currently listening to and can you recommend?
Kind of Blue by Miles Davis….various Bruce Hornsby Live CD’s…….Tedeski Trucks band…live………..Abbey Road….my daughter Zoe Sky Jordan’s new EP.
How do you think it will go on for you?
I don’t really know at this point but there are going to be big changes.
Do you have a message for your fans?
Music is different than all other art forms …….Music is our first language….It will help us make sense out of what now appears to be a very bleak and tragic situation…
Marc, I have also a few questions about your musical roots. What is your earliest musical memory?
Singing with my mother who was a great singer …maybe I was three.
Which artists and bands have influenced you?
Everyone from the Beatles to Bill Evans…From Tom Waits to Sinatra and Billy Holiday to Aretha Franklin.
What was your first instrument?
The piano.
When did you decide to become a professional musician?
It was the only real interest I had all my life.
What did your parents say when you told them that you wanted to become a musician?
They were very happy ……my father was an amazing singer in New York in the 40’s.
Which profession would you have chosen if you hadn’t become a musician?
Actor.
Do you remember your first gig?
Wow…I was so scared I couldn’t see straight…but it went OK I think.
What was it like when you first held an album of yours in your hands?
It felt right…not thrilling really but just right …I always knew I would make things happen for myself in the industry.
